Once your favorite TV show ends (for the season or for good) it's hard to choose which show to watch next, or find a series that you can actually get interested in. However, there are many shows on right now that many people would love. In my opinion, the following six TV shows should be a given a chance by anybody looking for something to fill their binge-watching needs. All are either currently airing or gearing up for a new season.
1. Game of Thrones
"Game of Thrones" has been highly praised and revered by viewers and critics alike and with good reason. Though all the names and places can get confusing, the main stars quickly become some of your favorite characters of all time. The level of detail that goes into the writing, setting, sound and design are magnificent--and it shows. People feel deeply for these characters and thus grow attached to the show in a way that is rarely seen. Though you might cry, "Game of Thrones" is a TV show that's definitely worth looking into. You can watch the episodes through HBO, through an HBONow account, Amazon or iTunes.
2. American Dad!
Created by Seth MacFarlane,"American Dad" is perhaps one of the most underrated cartoons on TV. It's often overshadowed by "Family Guy", also created by MacFarlane and much more famous. However, I'd argue that "American Dad" is not only more funny than it's predecessor, but more clever and enjoyable as well. It's filled with quick-witted commentary about what's going on in the world today and relies less on cheap gags and random cut-away scenes. Episodes of "American Dad"can be found on Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, Amazon and TBS' website.
3. The 100
Although, "The 100"is aimed more toward teenagers and young adults, I'm sure that people of any age group could become addicted to this mystery/sci-fi series. Filled with intriguing plot twists, complicated characters and intriguing action sequences (along with a little romance, too), "The 100" features a group of kids fighting to survive a post-apocalyptic Earth. The turns their story takes are unexpected and unique. I can safely say I haven't seen a premise quite like it anywhere else, TV or otherwise. "The 100"can be found on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and iTunes.
4. Shameless
"Shameless"is another HBO show, though it's vastly underrated. It tells the story of drunken patriarch Frank, his six kids, and family friends as they struggle to get by in the South side of Chicago. It's offensive yet raw, and portrays many struggles people in America deal with everyday. In the latest season, the Gallagher family faces foreclosure on their home, teen pregnancy, alcohol dependence, living with bipolar disorder, poverty, deportation and heroin addiction. "Shameless" can be watched through HBO Now, Showtime, iTunes and Amazon.
5. Survivor
As a reality TV junkie, I couldn't help but include "Survivor"on this list. Though most TV shows of this nature are--even I admit--trash, I would advocate that "Survivor" is a rare exception. It's been airing for sixteen years now, and for good reason. Average people are forced to compete and, of course, survive for a month in exotic locations with little to none outside help. The contestants are at their lowest, and either thrive or fall in the chaos that ensues as everyone fights to stay in hopes of winning the million dollar prize. It's a mixture of physical and mental endurance, strategy and pure will power. All of these components make for the perfect reality TV competition and are the reason "Survivor"makes this list. You can watch "Survivor" on Hulu, through CBS, or by buying the seasons on iTunes or Amazon.
6. Black Mirror
"Black Mirror"is a British anthology-horror series that originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK. Netflix has since bought the rights and is producing a fourth season (thankfully, with far more episodes). Currently, there are only six episodes and a Christmas special, but these episodes feature some of the most brilliant modern-day horror stories to date. "Black Mirror"" is critically acclaimed and beloved by many, and for good reason. The series provides daring social commentary and sticks with you long after you've finished watching. The horror is shocking and leaves you with a sense of long-lasting dread that's impossible to shake off. "Black Mirror " can be found on Netflix, Amazon or iTunes.
