Within the last few months I've been selling clothes on an app called Poshmark. It involves posting photos and descriptions for items that were already in your closet or ones you've purchased to resell. The app gives you your own homepage to post your items to, which acts like a virtual closet. After making over $500 in two months of downloading the app, I'm here to tell you what I've learned.
1. You may spend money to make money
The best way to make money on Poshmark is to not just sell the unwanted clothes that are sitting in your closet at home. That's good to do, don't get me wrong, but specific name brands are what sell best. Patagonia, Victoria's Secret Pink, and Nike sell best on my account. My friends and I go to Goodwill about once a week to snatch up any popular brand clothes we can. I pick up any Patagonia and Victoria's Secret I find and Nike workout gear that I know I can make money on when I resell it. You'll end up buying stuff for $5 or less and selling it for $15+.
2. Being organized is key
If you post your photos with a lot of different disorganized backgrounds it makes your account look disorganized. What I learned is that if you lay down a white blanket in an area with good lighting and take all your photos with that background your account will look pleasing to buy from!
3. Ship your items same day
Have all your envelopes and boxes ready for sales. The moment I make a sale I try to print the shipping label and mail it as soon as I can! It makes buyers want to buy from you again! Think about it, when you order something online you want it as soon as possible, and the same goes for whoever purchased your item!
4. Thank you notes are a must
Whether or not you thank the buyer on Poshmark, always write a thank you note and stick it in the package! "Thank you for your purchase! I hope you love it!" is so easy and gives the buyer a good impression on you, and they might remember you as a fun and easy to work with seller.
5. Answer any questions you get
If someone asks for measurements or more photos, DO IT! Since they can't see the item in person until they buy it and receive it, it's best to let them know everything they want. You don't want someone to buy something from you and not be happy with it!
6. Be active
Sharing listings on Poshmark is the secret to making a lot of sales. Think of Poshmark listings like Facebook posts. When you share someone's post on Facebook it makes it so all of your followers can now see what they posted. The same goes with Poshmark. When you share other sellers listings it broadens their platform, which in the end helps you. Out of courtesy, many will share your listings if you share theirs!
