6 Tips For Finals Success

Unfortunately, finals are right around the corner. I don't know how this year flew by, but it did. Now is the time where University students pull all-nighters cramming in hours of notes and reading material in last-ditch efforts to save our GPA's. While studying for finals is the worst, there are ways to alleviate that pain. Here are six tips for finals success.

1. Go to your TA's and Professors

While we are told right upon entering college to use our resources, many students choose to forego study sessions and office hours with their instructors. These people obviously know the final material the best as they are the ones writing it and grading it, so it would benefit you if you stopped by their office at least once before your exam or essay is due.

2. Make Last Minute Friends in Class

If you know you're struggling with your exam material, ask people in your class if they would like to hold a group study session. Chances are they're just as lost as you are and appreciate the offer.

3. Organize Your Materials

If you haven't already organized your notes, hop to that ASAP. It makes life so much easier if you can quickly find material you need to study from.

4. Stock Up on Snacks and Drinks

Buy all the snacks you want for late night stress eating as you type away your 15 page research paper. It would also benefit you to buy all the water, coffee, and tea now so that you don't run out at 3 am one night. And if you study better with your mind a little looser, or are already thinking ahead to your post-finals celebrations, pick up your favorite alcoholic libation as well.

5. Plan Out Where You're Going To Study

Whether you "Hunger Games" -style claim a spot at the library, or find an empty classroom in an obscure building, know where you're going to study and when.

6. Calm Down

Finals are very, very stressful. Remember why you're at this University and how you got here in the first place. Go for a walk. Take naps. Call your mom. Skype your pets. Do something that relaxes you while you study. It is imperative that your mental health is looked after during this time.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.
