6 Times My Big Was My Best Friend

She has proved to be one of my best friends

6 Times My Big Was My Best Friend

One of the most exciting moments of being in a sorority is Big/Little week. Every day is filled with goodies and surprises from a mystery girl, and at the end of the week you find out who your big is. Some people are randomly paired, some get their first choice, some pairs barely talk, and some pairs are very close. In my case, however, there was a match made in Heaven! I met my soon-to-be big in Spanish class, not knowing what an important impact she would have on my life. She has proved to be one of my best friends, and although I could never put into words how much she's done for me, here are just a few instances.

1. All The Times She's Tutored Me

My big genuinely cares about how I am doing in school, and she constantly offers time to tutor me if I ever need it. Although we did get points taken off of our participation grades in Spanish class for constantly talking, for the most part she plays a great role in my keeping my grades up. I wouldn't have made it through my first semester classes without her, and she does not let me forget that "I made a 97 on my Spanish final just because she helped me." I'm so thankful to have a big who wants me to do my best.

2. She Always Includes Me

Despite being a Freshman, my big always invites me to do things with her and her friends. I love that I am always welcome to study, eat or just hang out with her at any time that I ask.

3. The Rides

If I ever need a ride to the library, the chapter room, or Zaxby's (LOL), I know I can always count on my big to cover me. This might not seem like a big deal, but when your car is so far away from where you live, a ride makes all the difference.

4. The Time She Gave Me My Big Basket

When I got a text from my big that said, "Do you like the color pink and glitter," I knew that we were going to be the perfect match. My big put together the most incredible basket of goodies for me including baggie t-shirts, our sorority's letters, painted canvases, and my favorite candy.

5. The Talks

My big is a talker-- and I am too. Which makes for hours and hours of conversation before any study session. And I LOVE it. I know I can always go to my big with anything, and I am so thankful to have someone to confide in. There is never a dull moment with her, and there's usually not a time when we're together that we aren't laughing.

6. Not Being Able To Rap

We love to jam out to throwbacks and Bruno Mars in the car, but when the rap part comes on, you can count us out! This usually makes for a good laugh for the others around us, and we don't mind being the butt of a joke when it comes to this.

Although there are only 6 instances here, I can't really think of a time when I don't think of my big as a best friend. I do not know how I could have made it this far into this year without her, and I can't wait to live in a house with her next year. Thank you, big, for loving and caring about me so much, and I can't wait for many more memories with you!

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
