6 Times I Know USF Is The Place For Me
INTO

As my freshman year comes to an end, I've realized how much I've grown to love USF. Here are some moments that occur every day and continue to remind me of the great choice I made a year ago.

1. When I'm walking past the MLK Fountain

There's nothing like walking past this fountain after a long day, as the sun goes down, as you contemplate your whole academic future.

2. When I'm standing in line at Starbucks in the Library

Even when the line is out the door, I find myself waiting there for some high caffeine beverage to get me through the day. I love the bustle of people in the morning, getting me awake and ready for class.

3. When I step foot in the Student Center

There's always something going on, and there's definitely a place for everyone. My place, for example, is Chick-fil-A.

4. When I sit down for my lecture hall

Even when it's 9:30 in the morning and I'm not sure if I'm entirely awake yet my lecture hall finds a way to engage me. An hour and 45 minutes later I feel like a whole new person, just filled with knowledge. Of course, if it's cancelled every once in a while that doesn't hurt either.

5. When I talk to my Professors

Professors stop at nothing to help you get to where you need to be. When the effort is shown they do everything in their power to help you succeed. They genuinely care, and it motivates me to exceed expectations.

6. When I talk to other students

In all entirety, the students are what make USF so special. We have students from all different backgrounds and cultures who come together to take part of this vibrant, diverse Bull community. This school has opened my eyes to the world around me, and I'm so grateful to call myself a student here. You learn to be apart of something that's bigger than yourself, a lesson that will go with you wherever life takes you.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
