Good books are forever, even if your tech professors tell you that in a matter of a few decades, technology will completely take over and paper will basically be firewood (but then again, by then technology probably would've taken over our fireplaces too). The point is that good books are still needed, even if it may not seem like it, especially in these situations.
1. When your laptop dies and you have an hour and a half before your next class.
You don't want to use your phone and risk that running out of battery too! The great thing about books is that they don't need to be charged every day, and the only outlet you'll ever need is your imagination.
2. When you don't want to tell people that the last book you read was for a high school class.
And your five-inch thick college textbooks don't count, either! But when was the last time you just read for fun?
3. When you realized that you used to be able to finish a novel in two days.
That was when you were in middle school...now you struggle to read the front page of a newspaper. After this you probably want to start training your brain to appreciate and zip through hundreds of pages of printed text again.
4. When you realize that there's more to life than Netflix.
Even if you could watch Grey's Anatomy all day, try to take a break from Netflixing to chill with a good book--even if it's just for an hour.
5. When you're in the subway and don't have a signal.
As fun as watching sleeping passengers may be (sarcasm alert) immersing yourself in a textual world is basically like going to an amusement park (if you think amusement parks are fun).
6. When you want to hop back on your dream of landing a book deal.
Sometimes, writers start off as readers; it's how we pick up on styles of writing, rules of grammar, and more. The best research for what makes a book compelling enough to be sold, is sometimes simply reading that book.
