Through the ages, trends have come and gone. Although there may be some trends that need to stay buried in the past forever, there are some things that are so awesome that they need to be permanent. From music to fashion and beyond, there have been trends that make you vomit in your mouth a little to ones that you can't get enough of. So, in honor of #tbt, here is a list of oldies yet goodies that need to stay around forever. Get your vintage on and possibly make some of these throwbacks into comebacks.
1. Finger waves
Everybody loves this vintage look. Although it's not a very common occurrence in everyday life. Whether you are merely going to class or out on a date finger waves are always a go to — classy, sassy, and timeless.
2. Going steady
In today's “Netflix and chill” dating culture, “going steady” has almost gone extinct. The effort of asking someone out and planning a date have gone almost extinct. It has been diminished to simply "hanging out." Many are trapped because of the fear of commitment, and our culture is focused on immediate gratification. When a relationship that has flaws is unable to be repaired, it is usually thrown out, and the next week there is a new one. Newer almost always means better, but that isn’t always the case with relationships. We need to bring back the mindset of “going steady.”
3. Sock hops
Sock hops were very popular during the 1950s. These high school dances were also very controversial during that time. Students would have to take off their shoes to keep from scuffing up the gym floor. Now, the closest thing that you can do is go to a prom or dance, which can cost a fortune. There is some kind of liberation that comes with dancing around in only socks. The simplicity of these dances is something that should return.
4. Drive-in movie theaters
With the rise of indoor and home theaters, there have been less and less drive-in movie theaters. Also, with the increased cost of new projectors and film, drive-in theaters that are only open for a fraction of the year are unable to keep up with financial demands.
5. Dresses
Everyone wore dresses back then! Now, whenever someone sees me wearing a dress they just ask why I’m so dressed up. Who wants to wear pants, anyway?
6. Handwritten letters
Before we had texting, Snapchat, Twitter, and so on, phone calls and letters were used primarily for people to communicate with one another. Although it may be more practical to simply send a quick text saying, “What’s up?” knowing that someone took the time to sit down and write a letter is priceless. Receiving a letter from someone gives me one of the best feelings ever.
