6 Thoughts Everyone Has While Walking Down The Breezeway
Florida Atlantic University

Ahhh, the first day of school. It's a beautiful day and in the air lingers with the smell of freshman mistakes and the on campus Wendy's. If you go to Florida Atlantic University, you know the Breezeway. If you're new to FAU, you'll definitely get to know the Breezeway- or at the least the confusing, under-construction version of it. During my time here at FAU, I've learned and experienced many different things on the Breezeway but there are a few things that I know we all think and can all agree on and they're as follows:

1. Where the hell am I going and why is this so confusing? 2016 edition.

Don't get me wrong, we're all excited for the Breezeway renovations (even though I'll be an old graduate by the time it's finished.) However, I came onto campus today and was very confused by the makeshift mulch trail. Needless to say, it was the incredible journey venturing to my morning class and next time I will wear hiking boots but I know it'll all be worth it when our campus is even more gorgeous!

2. It is very, very hot.

Okay it's 9 a.m. and I'm sweating. In what world is this okay? Not much else to say here besides welcome to South Florida!

3. Wait, are these people freshmen or high schoolers?

Okay, either I'm looking a lot older or these freshman look younger and younger every year. Did I look this young? Oh my gosh this one is so lost, let me help you! I shouldn't be one to talk though because my first day of freshman year I spent an hour searching for my science class and ended up in the Education building covered in sweat, crying to my Mom. Oh and I also collided with a longboarder and thought about transferring. This is an accurate description of my face:

4. Let's get Chick-Fil-A.

One of the best decisions FAU ever made was putting a Chick-Fil-A on campus, but if you add the spicy chicken sandwich to the menu then we're really talking! We're just trying to eat good fam.

5. I wonder how long the line is at Starbucks.

*Gets to Starbucks and line is very long* *Still waits in line and is very late to class but this latte was worth it*

6. Wow, my school is beautiful.

Whether it's the plethora of palm trees or the landscaping, whatever FAU is doing it's working. I feel so blessed and grateful to go to a school in the middle of paradise and this is what I tell myself on days like today when I show up to my first class very sweaty and very defeated by the sun.

In the end, all you freshies appreciate your time on campus and the Breezeway in general. Next year I'll be walking down the streets of Manhattan in the freezing snow and I'm sure I'll miss being able to walk to class and get a tan. Enjoy it while you can! Oh, and you will also get used to the smell of burning beef from Wendy's, I swear! #JustFAUThings

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
