I’ve been home for nearly three weeks and even though school means exams and lack of sleep, I’ve already said that I’m ready to go back countless times. Granted, most of the time I was saying it more as a threat to my dad when it was 9 p.m. and I was feeling too lazy to drive myself to the yogurt shop. But, three weeks in and this list of things has me checking the calendar to see how many more days till I have to go back to school.
1.Your Right Hand
Not literally, but you’ll find that you’ll miss your best friend(s) and teammates more than anything. Whether you like it or not, the friends that you make in college, especially when you go out-of-state, quickly become your second family.
2. Your Social Scene
Whether that tiny college bar or the library is your scene, you’ll soon find that there’s nothing in your hometown quiet like it.
3. Your City
The bond that has grown between you and your college town is special and one that will never fade. Your college town will no longer be just a place on a map but four years of memories disguised under one name.
4. That Bomb Food Place
Whether it’s after a long day or a long night everyone has a place that they crave when they're the most emotionally unstable. Going home for the summer means no more hole-in-the-wall greatness.
5. Athletics
If you are one of the blessed few that get to throw on a jersey and represent their university I don't even have to mention how much you’ll miss this. But even for NARPs (non-athletic normal people), college athletics can be a huge part of their experience. So no matter what side of the foul line you're on, you’ll miss being a part of the action this summer.
6. Independence
Drake said it best when he said. “oh man, oh man, oh man.” Freedom. When you're away for college and it’s 12:30 A.M. and you’ve been studying like crazy and you want a taco, you simply hop in your car and go to Taco Bell. When you're home for the summer and it's 7 P.M. and you want to have dinner with a friend, you have to submit a five-page essay in MLA format to Mom before the previous business day explaining who you're going with that you're doing and when you’ll be back.
While independence is something that will definitely be missed this summer, sit tight and try to play by mom’s rules, because soon we’ll be back to juggling school, sleep, and a social life all the while craving summer.
