Being a vegetarian my entire life, I have had my fair share of predictable and overused vegetarian insults thrown my way. While some of these questions and statements may stem from sheer curiosity, it is time that we address them and end their repeated usage, once and for all.

"Where do you get your protein from?"
Eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt, lentils, nuts, black beans, lima beans, broccoli, oats, avocados...and the list continues.
"You don't know what you're missing out on."
No, we do not, and we don't need/want to know, either.
"So what exactly do you eat?"
Everything that doesn't have meat in it. What many non-vegetarians fail to understand is that we're not starving out here with our meatless meals. Thankfully, most restaurants and fast food chains can make accommodations for vegetarians and offer a decent number of substitutions for meat.
"Eating meat is healthier."
There is no definite answer or study proving eating meat is healthier or unhealthier than having a vegetarian diet, so this statement is irrelevant (as of now).
"What?? You don't like vegetables? But you're a vegetarian!"
This question never made much sense to me, considering vegetarianism does not include a diet of solely vegetables. You can be a relatively healthy vegetarian and not consume most forms of vegetables, as long as you get a serving or two of some form of greens.
"Your life must suck."Â
I am a vegetarian, born and raised, so I've never had to give up meat and practice self-control, in that sense, but I can guarantee that we're really not that miserable. Sure, some newly-turned vegetarians must have meat cravings every now and then, but there are plenty of options for us that will suffice.
