No matter where you go to school, chances are you know what Sylly Week is and look forward to it each semester. With the hype at an all-time high, and everyone excited about finally being back at school, this calls for arguably some of the most insane nights of the entire semester. Here are some of the things only UW students know to be true about surviving Sylly Week...

1. How to dress for both the theme AND the weather.

Syllabus Week means themed parties every night. After some practice, Wisco students know exactly how to dress as a school girl while still avoiding frostbite.

2. That it's absolutely necessary to reorganize your schedule based on walking-distance.

While trekking up Bascom twice a day may have seeed doable in theory, Sylly Week gives students the ability to switch around whichever classes are simply too far. Trust me, it's always worth avoiding that long, cold walk to the Psych building.

3. How to make it to your 8 AM when the sidewalks are iced over.

There's nothing like waking up and realizing you have to survive the icy walk to class--while still hungover, of course. UW students know firsthand that snow boots really do complete every outfit.

4. The only acceptable times to hit up Fresh Market and The Bookstore.

With everyone re-stocking on groceries and textbooks at the same places, the lines can be terrible. Savvy UW students know to always get Fresh delivered and to pre-order books online first!

5. The importance of coffee.

Even without the workload, going out each night and still making it to every class means one thing: exhaustion. UW students understand the power of a trip (or three) to Starbucks or Colectivo.

6. The perfect back-to-school Insta.

While the below-freezing temperatures can be a hassle, they do allow for some pretty cool views. If you didn't post a picture on frozen Lake Mendota, are you really back at school?

All in all, it's safe to say no one does Sylly Week like us Badgers do!

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
