If you’re anything like me, then you’ve probably had to work your booty off to get anywhere in life. Ever since I was little, I knew school was always going to be difficult for me because I never seemed to learn as quickly as my older brother did. Sitting at the dining room table learning multiplication tables that I was behind on was a nightmare, but it was something that I had to do. Even worse was trying to juggle school and extracurricular activities when I got older. There are only 24 hours in the day and it just isn’t enough time if you constantly need more time! I always felt like no matter how hard I worked, I was still behind everyone else. As a senior in college, I feel like I have finally found out exactly what kind of learner I am. Although it hasn’t been easy, I am grateful for the work ethic that I have developed over the years. So if you were the kid that always had to put in a bit more effort than the others, this one is for you!

  1. Not sleeping well the night before a test.

Two words: test anxiety. Even after hours of preparation, I still always felt super nervous before taking a test. I never slept well before my exams because I always felt like there was something I could improve on. I still struggle with it!

  1. Having multiple exams on the same day is a disaster.

Nope nope nope all the nopes. Having to put all your energy into studying for one exam is one thing, but two or more? No thank you. That’s why final exams can be a nightmare. No amount of preparing in advance lessens the anxiety.

  1. The transition to college wasn’t so bad!

I knew so many people in high school that breezed through all of their classes. Hearing “I didn’t study but I got an A” always frustrated me, but I knew that they would learn in college that not everything comes so easily.

  1. Focusing is really har--SQUIRREL!

Having to study for hours at a time is miserable for me. I find myself staring out the window and getting easily distracted by everything.

  1. Studying more than the smart kid and still getting a lower grade.

I feel like this is always the case. No matter how hard I work I am never on top. This does not make you a lesser person!

  1. Sticky notes are your best friend.

Sticky notes and highlighters are the best thing since sliced bread, seriously. I have enough highlighters to supply a small country because you can never have too many! It makes studying so much easier and fun, even if it takes a long time to learn all of the information.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
