With Father's Day right around the corner, I realized I don't have much time (or money, let's be real) to get my Dad a gift. I figured what father wouldn't enjoy a list of things that I'm thankful he did for me throughout my life. We may forget to thank him, but this is the day of the year to let our dads know how much they mean to us. Watch out world, I'm about to get a little sappy!
1. Listening to us complain about drama they don't understand.
Whenever I get an annoying text when I'm around my Dad, I always go off and start venting to him like he's just one of my friends. I know he doesn't always understand what is going on, but he will just sit there and listen to me until I'm done. Then, at the end of my rant, he will give me some slight words of wisdom and tell me about a similar situation that happened to him when he was my age. It's the little things that count and the advice I get always helps no matter what the situation.
2. Taking us shopping...even though they really like it.
My Dad LOVES shopping. Ask anyone, they know it. He and I have gone shopping many times together and after the shopping trip, he makes it seem like I have been dragging him around the mall for the past four hours. Now, I'm not saying I mind shopping for that long, but lets place the blame on the appropriate person...aka Dad.
3. Letting us watch R rated movies when we shouldn't have.
The first R rated movie I ever saw was with my Dad and I will never forget it. I was so young and really shouldn't have seen it and my Dad knew that too. Didn't stop him from letting me watch it and I'm glad we did.
4. ...And letting us stay up way past our bed times.
Didn't matter what we were doing, but being a kid and staying up super late (AKA 10 o'clock) made us feel so cool. Dads are good at making us feel cool and helping us break the rules a little bit. Thanks Daddio!
5. Going on those random rants that actually end up teaching us something.
Every time we are driving in the car, out to dinner, or anywhere really, my Dad will go on some rant about some topic that we weren't even really talking about. I always sit back and let him go on for anywhere from 5-20 minutes talking about all these random topics. The funny thing is, by the end of it I always end up learning something I didn't know that applies to my life now. Pay attention to those slightly annoying rants, because who knows what you could get out of it.
6. Always having our backs, no matter what.
Through the ups and downs, our dads will always be there for us. Supporting us, being our biggest fans and helping us stick up for ourselves, they are there. I know at times I get annoyed with my dad and he gets annoyed with me, but I know he will always have my back and I'm lucky to have that.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, I hope you know we love you and are thankful for you even though we don't always show it!
