K-State football may just be the heart of Kansas State University. A K-State football game is an experience like no other. The atmosphere, the tailgating, the band, and the pride. K-State football season is always an experience that many freshman look forward to and plenty of alumni miss. If you've been to a football game in Bill Snyder Family Stadium then you probably already know what I'm talking about, but if you've never experienced a K-State football game here are 6 things you should know about K-State football gamedays.
1. The marching band is "The Pride of Wildcat Land"
The first thing you should know is that the K-State Band is probably (and by probably I mean is) the best band in the Big 12. The student section can always count on the band to get the entire stadium pumped. The K-State band now has a new sitting section in Bill Snyder Stadium and even though it is farther away from the student section than it has been in the past, it doesn't change the atmosphere that the K-State band sets during any football game in The Bill.
2. You will do the Wabash Cannonball about 20 times
Caturdays may be full of football, but when you're in Bill Snyder Stadium be prepared to do a whole lot of Wabashing. The Wabash Cannonball has become a tradition at Kansas State University and any wildcat will tell you that even though the wabash song may feel long you have to wabash the entire time! Not to brag or anything, but The Wabash Cannonball was recognized by ESPN as the greatest game day tradition in the big 12.
3. Bill Snyder
There really are no words to explain how important Bill Snyder is to K-State football, just know that he is. You can always count on seeing him in his game day track suit and head set. If you plan on attending a K-State football game just know that seeing Bill Snyder down on that field will make your day.
4. There will be purple everywhere
Anytime someone that isn't from Manhattan comes into town on game days, they'll know it is game day because of the sea of purple. You don't have to wear all purple on Caturdays, but just make sure you wear some kind of purple and please no blue, red, or yellow, it's just not a good color combo!
5. Willie The Wildcat
One of the key members of the K-State Family, Willie. If you ever attend a K-State football game take any chance you get to snap a picture with the beloved mascot! Another well known and well loved tradition during K-State football games is Willie's KSU chant and push ups after every touchdown.
6. The football
The thing that we all go to Bill Snyder Stadium for, the football. Whether our wildcats are winning or losing the intensity in the stadium is amazing. Wildcat football is like no other and through touchdowns, interceptions, rushing, and passing yards we go to The Bill for some football and a great time.
