1. The twins with different birthdays and birth-years:One was born Saturday night, just before the ball dropped, while the other was born within the first few minutes of the New Year.

2. The Turkey Nightclub Massacre: In the early hours of Sunday morning, a gunman attacked a nightclub in Turkey, where people were celebrating the New Year, and killed at least 39 people.

3. The Hollywood sign took part in the "New Year, New Me": Some jokesters had the clever idea of altering the famous sign at the start of 2017.

4. The U.S. Coast Guard started off 2017 with the continued search for the missing plane: On December 29th, a plane carrying six people went off the radar when traveling over Lake Eerie and hasn't been seen since.

5. Two protestors dangled from the ceiling of the Vikings stadium during the football game: Dakota Access Pipeline protestors hung from the rafters of the football stadium, undid a banner, and continued to hang out above the stadium seats while the game continued on.

6. California had 191 Earthquakes: As of noon on Sunday, January 1st, California had undergone 191 Earthquakes within 24 hours.
