Baylor University is known for its rich history and love for tradition. Regardless of when you spent your time here, you know that there are some things that are "just so Baylor" and make this university what it is. Here are a few of the most beloved traditions that make Baylor, Baylor:
The Green and Gold Swings
There's nothing Baylor Bears love more than "ring by spring," which is exactly what the green and gold benches all over campus represent best. We all know the myth that if you sit on any of these swings with someone you'll end up married to them one day!
Dr. Pepper Hour
Bears love Dr. Pepper! One of the most beloved traditions at Baylor is Dr. Pepper Hour every Tuesday. Nothing beats a Dr. Pepper float!
SING
I'm pretty sure Baylor takes SING almost as serious as football. Dating back to 1953, All-University SING is a broadway style production where student organizations compete to be in the top 8 acts that advance to Pigskin in the fall. Talk about competition...these acts are always amazing and alumni travel from all over the country to watch!
Slime Caps
Aren't you glad that you never actually HAD to wear these?? Back in the 1940's freshmen were REQUIRED to wear their Slime Caps as a symbol of their status, showing their year of graduation. I'm not really sure how they did that because these never fit on anyone's head! But still, this Baylor tradition has continued and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Tortilla Tossing
This tradition seems bizarre if you're not a Baylor Bear. Legend has it that if you toss a tortilla and it lands on one of the concrete ledges on the Brazos, you'll marry a Baylor Bear! (Ring by spring!)
Baylor Line and RG3
This picture should make every Baylor Bear feel emotional. I mean do you see the Line? RG3? The score? This picture just about sums up Baylor. There's no greater feeling than running the Baylor Line before a home game and there's no Heisman winner like RG3!
