6 Things Simba Could've Done to Save Mufasa

Don't lie. You think about all of these every time you watch.

There's one image that is forever stuck in the memories of millennials: the scene from The Lion King where Mufasa dangles from the cliff and is ultimately pushed off by his brother, Scar. I know I will never forget the way the dust rose up as the wildebeests trampled him on their way through the valley. Most of us wish, every time we watch the film, that we could go back and warn him about his perfidious brother. A closer look at the scene, however, will reveal that his son, Simba, has multiple opportunities to save him. Let's take a look at six of them.

1. The Elephant Graveyard

The most obvious opportunity is when he wanders off into the elephant graveyard. The following encounter between Scar and Mufasa is the spark that ignites Scar's intention to plan out the wildebeest stampede. Mufasa warns Simba to not leave The Pride Lands and he doesn't listen. He's an arrogant cub who overestimates his abilities, it's as simple as that.

2. Roaring Practice

Another great chance is when he practices his roar. Simba should know that the vocal mechanics of a full-grown lion are much different than that of a cub. Anything about roaring he learns as a young lion will not be applicable later in life, the time when a lion actually needs to roar. If he'd spent his time paying attention instead of practicing a useless skill, he would've noticed that something was up.

3. Falling In Love With Nala

Many of these situations could've been avoided altogether if he'd been more careful earlier in his life. All of his attempts to appear brave are all inspired by his love for Nala. He should never have fallen in love with her because we all know that love leads to jealousy, pain, and wildebeest fratricide. And at the very least, if he'd really wanted to impress her, he could have just participated in a hot wing eating competition like I did.

4. During "I Just Can't Wait to be King"

A fourth opportunity is when he sings with all of those animals. Spectacles like that are what make others jealous of being royalty. Being king is not fun, but when you sing about your anticipation for attaining the position, it makes it seem quite appealing.

5. During "Circle of Life"

One opportunity that isn't thought about much is the part where Rafiki raises him up at the beginning of the movie for all to behold. Simba could've done a cool kickflip or said something clever, and Scar would've taken a liking to him. Simba is an incredibly boring character and it's understandable that somebody wanted to kill him; I know the thought flashed across my mind.

6. Before His Birth

Perhaps the most obvious chance was before the movie even starts. He should've never been born. The kingdom would still be intact, Mufasa would still have a happy life, and the citizens wouldn't have had to deal with complicated regime changes.

There you go, six opportunities that were all blown by Simba! And please, don't look for flaws in my plot logic because I'm sure there are many.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
