Facebook is a platform that people use to express themselves. However, there are a few instances where you should keep those expressions to yourself. Here are six things people shouldn't put on Facebook.
1. Your Relationship Status, #MakingItOfficial
This is private information. Not everyone needs to know that you are in a relationship for the third time this year. You putting up your relationship status gives everyone the key to your personal life. Plus it can get seriously awkward if things happen to turn sour and end. This just causes for an awkward moment of you having to remove your relationship status. Honestly, we are all happy you are sooooooo in love, but keep it off Facebook.
2. Family Drama
If your family is having some sort of conflict, running to Facebook to rant about it is not the best idea. Posting family drama on Facebook not only makes it awkward for the parties involved to see, but also everyone that scrolls by it. Instead of running to Facebook to talk about the issues your family is facing maybe consider going to the family member that is causing the problem and talking it out? #CommunicationIsKey
3. GPA's/Dean's List
I am happy for you that you got on the Dean's List this semester. Honestly it's an amazing accomplishment and I’m so proud of you studious students that made it onto the list for this past semester. Chances are if you are posting about your GPA or making it on the Dean's List, you excelled and did very well. This is essentially “rubbing it in” to everyone else on Facebook that didn't exactly do well. People every semester post their GPA’s and Dean's List achievements when in reality, Jimbob that you met in second grade that sees this pop up on his timeline doesn't really care. Once again, this is private information, information you usually share with your family. Facebook is filled with many people I am sure you consider acquaintances. So go ahead, share with your family, text them and send them pictures … but keep it off Facebook.
4. Degrading Posts About People's Religious/Political Views
Everyone has a right to their own opinion and I think it's time we start being adults and remember that everyone has different views that will sometimes differ from our own. Your 14 paragraph long status is most likely not going to change anyone's opinion. The most it is probably going to do is create World War Three amongst your friends on Facebook. #AgreeToDisagree
5. Pictures of Being Drunk
I am sure you are friends on Facebook with plenty of people who are your family members, family friends, old teachers and maybe even bosses. Posting pictures of you being drunk for everyone to see is far from classy. Even if you are not the one who posts the picture, you are just tagged in it, you can hide it from your timeline or untag yourself from the picture. I am not too sure your family, bosses or people that respect you want to see how you looked at 2am last Saturday night with a beer in your hand. #KeepItClassy
6. Game Requests
No Auntie Sue and Grandma Loreen, I will not send you another life in Candy Crush or another horse in Farmville.
