6 Things I'll Miss Most About Pennsylvania

Even though I can return home any time, I'll still miss it.

6 Things I'll Miss Most About Pennsylvania
Drew Heisey

In less than a week, I'll be moving back to Orlando for the next eight months. I can't wait to begin this new chapter of my life, but I will miss Pennsylvania, my home for the last 22 years. Here are the things I'll miss about Pennsylvania.

1. My family and friends:

Most of my family lives in Pennsylvania, so I won't be able to see them as easily as I can now. I will miss them the most, especially not being home for Thanksgiving or Christmas again this year. I hope to come home and visit during these eight months.

Even though I just graduated, I will miss college and the friends I made so much. But as they say, all good things must to end, and college was the best four years of my life, but I have another journey to embark on now.

2. All the memories made there:

Where do I start, I grew up in Pennsylvania, so all my childhood was in good old Quakertown, PA. There are many words that I have for my hometown and the couple that come to mind is "Always There." I know that Quakertown will always be there for me to comeback to.

3. Sadly, winters:

Yes, I will sadly miss the winters. Not that much, but I'll miss the days where we might have a snow day or a day to just stay in and cuddle up to keep warm. I will not miss shoveling snow or salting.

4. The City:

Philadelphia is the city that I have the most memories with. From going there on school trips to going there to see the Phillies win a game, the city is jam-packed with things to do. I'll miss the atmosphere the city instills and the beautiful skyline.

5. Places that I grew up eating at:

There are many mom and pop shops all around Quakertown. The ones that I will miss the most are Sal's Pizza Randa and The Best Food in Town: Chinese Kitchen. Both offer different varieties of food, but are some of the best authentic food I have ever had.

6. The great outdoors feel:

Pennsylvania is farmlands as far as I can see. But compared to the swampy-ness of Florida, Pennsylvania farmlands are beautiful! Wide fields with beautiful deep green grass or off-yellow corn stalks stretch for acres. There is something peaceful about them and I'd rather not be scared about what is lurking in the swamps of Florida.

I could keep going on and on about Pennsylvania, but I know that I can return to the state and town where I grew up anytime I want. Pennsylvania, this isn't the last you seen've of me.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
