Like every EIC at Odyssey, I am so grateful to impact the lives of others and watch a culture grow. But, as with every leadership role, the Editor in Chief position comes with a whole lot of responsibility. Of course, the Editor in Chief role is as rewarding as demanding, but there are some daily occurrences that are unique to Odyssey EICs. Here are a few examples.
1. You get way too excited when you hit your minimum article count.
I can breathe. I can breathe. I CAN BREATHE.
2. And, when you exceed your goal? Oh boy.
Nope, it’s not the coffee. It’s not the sugar in my cereal from this morning. It’s just me, unable to control my feels.
3. But, not every week is going to be a good week.
Sometimes, you’ll have 1298312097 writers quit and be 5 articles down all in one week, but you know what? That’s okay, because not every week will be great. Just pick yourself up, learn from your mistakes, and carry on.
4. When CMS posts your published article on Facebook at a time you didn’t want it to…
NO ONE’S GOING TO READ THIS AT 2 AM, CMS. NO ONE.
5. You’re Facebook friends from college campuses all over the country.
You got your one friend in Illinois, another in Florida, another in Pennsylvania, another in North Carolina… Need I go on?
6. You’ll always remember that being an EIC is such a blessing.
There will always be ups and downs. There will always be times when you feel like you want to tear the hair out of your head. But, Odyssey has taught you so much about yourself and your community -- it’s such a rewarding experience that you just forever feel blessed.
