It’s no secret that Ellensburg gets pretty boring pretty quickly. But what do you do when the school year ends and most of the college students leave? As a college student stuck in Ellensburg during the summer, it feels like there is even less to do.
Fear not! I have compiled a list of 10 things to keep the average college student entertained during the long summer months:
1. Check out the farmers market.
Seriously, this is one of the coolest things Ellensburg has to offer. Kittitas Valley has some amazing local products to offer and they are showcased here. So seriously, do yourself a favor and check it out! It's held every Saturday morning.
2. Walk through the SURC.
It's so weird and quiet during the summer. There's like, no one in there and your thoughts basically echo. It's kind of cool to see.
3. Take a walk around campus.
Since you're already on campus visiting the freaky empty SURC, just take a walk around the CWU campus. It's very pretty and easier to enjoy when there aren't mobs of thousands of people coming at you.
4. Take a day trip.
If at all possible, try and get out of town! Leavenworth is a little over an hour away and it's a quaint little tourist town. I'm sure a lot of people have already been there, but it's still fun to visit! There's almost always something different going on there.
Another cute town is Roslyn, so take a day, grab some friends, and go on an adventure!
5. Go hiking.
Hiking is kind of an Ellensburg cliché, but it is one of the many outdoor things to do in Ellensburg. Like Manastash, Umptanum, even the Wild Horse Monument over by Vantage. But go early in the morning, because it gets hot very quickly!
6. Go to something the city of Ellensburg hosts.
A couple of different events are hosted throughout the summer, including Jazz in the Valley, the Kittitas County Fair, and the Ellensburg Rodeo. More opportunities to be involved in the Ellensburg community, not just as a college student!
It can be tough to find, but there is stuff to do and things to entertain you in this little town! Get out, explore, and say yes to the different options, even if it's not something you would normally do!
