Coming to the end of October and entering November, we all know New York has some snowy days ahead. On a day that the temperature drops into the single digits or the negatives and the snow is coming down beautifully but very hard, there are a few things that you can do to make this cold season tolerable.
1. Curl up with a good book
Find a book that looks interesting to you (not a textbook!) and a big blanket to keep you warm and read away!
2. Netflix; binge watch your favorite show
Whoever said that watching three seasons of Shameless in a day was a waste of time obviously never spent any time in Upstate New York in the winter. Again, you're going to want some blankets.
3. Hot chocolate
Hot Chocolate is the drink of cold weather-- it is pretty much required that you drink some while you freeze. If hot chocolate really is not your thing, I suppose tea may be substituted. For the third time, blankets will be necessary.
4. Make a Pinterest inspired blanket fort
If you go on the internet you have probably seen those awesome blanket forts on Pinterest and Tumblr and wherever. You should definitely try to make one... When you fail at that, refer to another number on this list.
5. Go outside to experience the beauty of nature
This one is for all you who claim to like the snow. So go outside! If you don't like the snow, go outside for just a minute to confirm that you are right in your opinions on snow, then go back inside because it is just awful out there.
6. Think about other people who are experiencing the cold differently
Winter is a beautiful thing to observe from the comfort of your home, but not everyone has the same luxuries you do. Winter is the hardest season for people who can't afford to have the heat turned up too high, or to buy as much food as they need. If you do brave the outdoors, which I am sure you will at some point, think about looking into what you can do to help out around your community.
Keep warm!
