Since I was in 6th grade, I've been involved in alot of activities. Marching band, drama club, yearbook, honors choir, you name it and I did it. Nonstop involvement was, and still is, a part of my character. Coming to college, I kept marching while exchanging a few things for Greek life and being an honors student. Keeping busy is all I know how to do anymore, so here are 6 things any busy person knows all to well.
1. It's hard to say no.
When you're used to being constantly engaged in one thing or another, it's often hard to stop yourself from adding more to your list of things to do, especially when new groups or activities catch your eye. As you get involved in more and more, your heart is happy to be active but sooner or later, your brain is going to explode from trying to keep track of it all.
2. Downtime is...weird.
The few moments when you're not busy (and I mean few) feel foreign and you're not quite sure what you're supposed to do. They either go by so quickly that you feel like they never happened or they drag on like the last 5 minutes of a boring lecture. During those little glimpses of nothing, you're probably trying to come up with something to do so it doesn't feel as wrong.
3. The glorious feeling of being able to see a friend in between things
Trying to make plans with people is exhausting because no one's schedules coordinate, especially since most of your friends are also probably busy people. When you finally find a time when things work for all involved, it's euphoric and beautiful. That time is probably not as long as you want it to be, but at least for once you get to see someone outside of scheduled group activities.
4. Dating is hard.
When you try to date someone in the groups you're involved with, it's terrifying because if you break up, well, prepare for awkward. On the flip side, trying to date outside of the groups is hard because your schedules are never going to work well. Finding someone who somehow manages to work with this is a miracle in and of itself.
5. Your planner is terrifying.
Trying to keep track of everything means you have to have some sort of planner or calendar at your disposal. Personally, mine is a planner marketed for moms because it has so much room for writing. Despite having all that room, mine still manages to look like my pen threw up ink on the page.
6. You wouldn't want it any other way.
When it all boils down, there's so much to do in life that not trying to do it all just feels wrong. Yeah, it may be exhausting sometimes, but the truth is this is who you are. For me, I would never want to give up any of the things that take up my time. My calendar may be full of Greek life, marching band and schoolwork, but at least I'm moving. I won't live forever, so I want to do all that I can before I can't anymore.
