Weird but Worth It

6 Things About Going Home From College

The biggest changes from going from college to home.

1. Not having a roommate

It is so weird not sharing the room with someone whether you like them or not. For me it is so weird not having late night snacks and talks with my roomie.

2. Having so much food

It is so different being able to walk downstairs to a full fridge and pantry. Something I took for granitite.

3. Working

Working an actual job all the time. Yes some people work at college, but it is weird to have that be the only thing you do now.

4. Going back to your old High School

I have gone and said hello made my rounds been to the sports games and it is weird. I am an alumna that is something that blows my mind.

5. You don't have access to your best friends.

My best friends are spread all over the country and it stinks that I cannot just walk down a floor and hang out with them. It is great to see everyone at home, but I am not living with the people I have lived with all year.

6. Having someone in charge of you

It is funny to be back and discuss your schedule, talk about where you are going, and have authority when all we really had was an RA.

It is so great to be home, but it is crazy to see some of the changes. It is a huge transition, but it is worth it for family.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
