6 Thing I Learned From Being A Chi Omega

Joining a sorority was never on my To-Do List growing up. It wasn't something I ever saw myself doing and sometimes I still can't believe I actually did it. But then I found Chi Omega and I honestly can't see my life without it. Here are some things being a Chi Omega has taught me.

1. My sisters will always be there for me.

Even when you are at your lowest of lows, there will always be someone to pick you up when you need it. There is always someone I can call at 3 o'clock and the morning when I am having a mental break down and she will drop what she's doing (which is probably sleeping) to make sure I am okay.

2. Fights happen but at the end of the day, you're still sisters.

If I were to say there was never a disagreement or two I would be lying. But no matter what the argument my sisters are still are still my sisters and I will always love them no matter how many arguments we get into.

3. Make-A-Wish is the best philanthropy.

Nothing beats that feeling when you make a wish come true. Seeing the smile on our wish child's face makes everything we do worth it.

4. Big/Little Season is the best season.

Whether you got a Little or not, or received a Big, you gained a new family. These are girls you would go to the ends of the earth for and seeing their faces on reveal day makes it so much sweeter. These are girls your are tied to for the rest of your lives and they will always hold a special place in your heart.

5. I will always have someone who will tell me the most brutal of truths.

"Don't wear that outfit" or "Maybe you should delete that picture" becomes so much easier to hear when it's from someone you trust. Let's be honest, if you were to hear those comments from your mother, you'd probably ignore her (or at least I would, sorry mom) but, there is just something about hearing it from a sister that makes it all too real. They've got your back for the long run.

6. There is no such thing as a typical "sorority girl".

If there is one thing I know for sure about Chi Omegas, is that we are anything but ordinary. We have some the most uniquely beautiful girls in the nation and the "typical sorority girl" trope is total trash. Take me for example, short dark hair, kinda chubby, total nerd. Not two of my sisters are exactly the same and that is what makes my sorority the best. There is always someone teaching me something new and there are so many different opinions to be heard. I wouldn't change any of them for the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
