For some people, the day after Thanksgiving is about getting all of your holiday shopping done in one day and saving as much money as possible. For others, it’s about laying on the couch and contemplating how much food you ate over the course of Thanksgiving dinner, dessert, post-dinner snacking, and midnight binging. But for everyone, the day after Thanksgiving should be an extension of the essence of the holiday: gratitude and time with those you love. Here are 6 steps to enjoying your Black Friday without looking for deals.
Go out for breakfast.
Thanksgiving is all about time with your family. Why should that end when the day does? Wake up from your food coma on Friday morning and go out for breakfast with your family. You probably haven’t eaten since “dinner” at 2 o’clock yesterday (and the secret midnight binge on leftovers), so go nuts. Get waffles and celebrate the other true meaning of Thanksgiving: excess and over-indulgence.
Grab a coffee.
After you get done with stuffing your face, grab a coffee from your favorite coffee shop, so you can walk around with it for number three:
Walk around with your coffee and admire the sights.
If you’ve never been out on Black Friday, you don’t know what you’re in for. Warning: NEVER go before 10:00 AM. Early morning Black Friday is chaotic, dangerous madness and should be avoided at all costs. But with your coffee in hand, you get to enjoy the fun part: watching all the crazy people and gawking at the empty shelves and mile long lines.
Make a game out of it.
See who can find the most ridiculous mess. Or the most ridiculous shopper. Split up into pairs and snapchat each other photographic evidence. Winner gets dibs on the last of the leftover pie!
Decorate for Christmas!
Once you’ve exhausted yourself, head on home because it’s officially CHRISTMAS SEASON (or, WHATEVER HOLIDAY YOU PERSONALLY CELEBRATE AT THIS TIME OF YEAR SEASON!!)!! Go in the basement and drag out every box of decorations you have and throw them up all over the house.
Take advantage of Cyber Monday.
If you really wanted to get some deals out of Black Friday, wait until the Monday after and google “Cyber Monday.” You’ll come up with thousands of online deals and—the best part—there aren’t any lines!
Black Friday doesn’t have to be about shopping. It can be a continuation of the Thanksgiving spirit of family and spending time being grateful. Whether you want to do everything off this list or just kick back and watch a movie with the people you love, try to enjoy this day and not worry so much about the commercial aspect of the upcoming holidays. Happy Thanksgiving!
