Having woken up with the flu a few days ago, there would be no better time than now to write about the various stages we all go through when we get sick at college. Because let's be honest, in the end all we really want is our mom to come take care of us.
1. "The Outbreak," where no one is allowed to touch me.
Everyone gets sick and you're praying you will be the exception that makes it. It usually makes you paranoid and you enter the "don't touch me if you're sick" phase. For me, this was during recruitment.
2. Your throat begins to hurt and you're developing a slight cough.
Even though you are showing symptoms, you think you are fine and push through. You tell everyone you're not sick and everything is okay, and that it'll go away by tomorrow.
3. You're now the one who sniffles their way through class.
I am so sorry, I really am.
4. Acceptance.
You finally accept the fact that yes, you are sick.
5. You start sleeping all day, every day.
It's the only thing that will fix this, right?
6. You wake up and realize that you have to make your own tea, soup and all the other remedies. These all require you to get out of bed. Desperate, you break down and call your mom.
If I am going to be sick, I at least deserve to have my mom here to feel bad for me and take care of me!
The only thing worse than being sick in college is knowing that once we graduate, we are still on our own and have to take care of ourselves when we are sick. Can somehow my mom move in with me but just when I'm sick?
