I have been a part of a sorority for almost a year now. I am a proud member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Chapter Pi. In the past year, I've learned that when you tell someone that you are in a sorority, you typically get the same response. Here are some of the things that all sorority girls are tired of hearing.

1. You are just paying for your friends.

This is one of the most frustrating things to hear. Yes, we pay dues to be a part of our organization, but we do not pay for our sisters to be our friends. We personally chose to be in that organization because of the women in it.

2. You’re in “that” sorority?!

Every chapter comes with a reputation, but we love all the women in that chapter and I couldn’t imagine my life without them. Don’t be so quick to judge.

3. Have you ever been hazed?

No! Hazing is something that is taken very seriously. It is illegal for a reason. We would never put our members lives at risk just for entertainment.

4. Why can’t you tell me about initiation?

Ritual is a special part of being in a Greek organization. It is what truly ties you together with your sisters all over the world. It makes your sorority different from all the others.

5. Isn’t it like this?

When you tell someone that you are a member of sorority, they often will immediately try to show you your hand symbol and fail. For the most part, each organization has a different symbol that sets them apart. So, if you don’t know it, don’t throw it.

6. All you do is party, right?

I’m not going to tell you some fairytale story about how there are no parties in Greek life because that would be a lie. As long as you don’t assume that parties are the only reason I joined my sisterhood.

So, next time that a woman of character tells you that she is a part of a sorority, don’t scoff and start in with your frustrating questions. Take a minute and listen to all the wonderful things that come from being a part of a Greek organization.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
