Music is something everyone connects with. There's that one song you scream at the top of your lungs at a party, your "get ready" song, and the song you sing in the shower. Friendships are made over a love for a certain artist and if you ever get to see them in person, you practically die. With all the new music coming out, how can you pick your favorite? Which one is your new party song? What about the one you can belt in the car? Well here are six songs that I know I've had on repeat, and maybe you will too.
1. "Work" by Rihanna
Why It's Our Obsession: Rihanna's new album "Anti" was anticipated for months. She kept dropping hints but remained vague in her answers when asked about her album. When it was finally released, the album went platinum in 48 hours. The title is well-deserved; the album is killer. But it's evident that this song is a hit. It features Drake (which is perfect) and has a great beat that can lead anyone to the dance floor. And it's Rihanna, so, of course, it's killer.
2. "Formation" by Beyonce
Why It's Our Obsession: The song and video were released the day before the Super Bowl on Tidal and received tons of media coverage. She then went on to perform it at the Super Bowl, which was a performance many people deem "controversial." Despite the controversy surrounding the song, you can't deny yourself the perfection and powerhouse that is Beyonce. It's dark, but has a fantastic beat, and you know you copy her dance moves out on the floor. How could you not?
3. "Lush Life" by Zara Larsson
Why It's Our Obsession: This song is hella catchy. You can't help but bob along when it blares through your speakers. It definitely sounds like it can be your next summer hit. In fact, I forget that it's 20 degrees outside when listening to the song. She sings of treasuring the moment and living for yourself, which is exactly how we all try to live. It's a song you roll down your windows and drive around town with your best friends.
4. "Hands to Myself" by Selena Gomez
Why It's Our Obsession: Even though her album debuted back in October, it is still on repeat. This song particularly has come out as another great from the album. With Selena's sultry voice and flirty lyrics, you can't keep your body still when it comes out. Even if you don't have a beau, you still want to sing it to them. It's definitely one you blast while cleaning your room, though you end up doing more dancing than actual cleaning.
5. "All My Friends" by Snakeships
Why It's Our Obsession: This song features Tinashe and Chance the Rapper, so you know from the start it's going to be everything. It has a slower beat and reminds you of Alina Baraz "Fantasy" which is another fantastic song. It's one you chill to, hanging out with a group of your friends as you play cards or just enjoy the company. The lyrics are a little more real, but you dig the vibe it gives. It's for the nights you want to stay in instead of going out.
6. "I Know What You Did Last Summer" by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello
Why It's Our Obsession: You're lying to yourself if you don't love Shawn Mendes. He started out as a talented, and cute, vine star. His single Stitches is still a favorite on the radio and you catch yourself humming it to yourself in the grocery store. Camila Cabello is a member of the very successful girl group Fifth Harmony, who are responsible for the anthem BO$$. So how could you expect anything less than amazing when you put the two powerhouses together? This song is definitely for the shower as you try, and fail, to sing both parts. Even if you don't have an ex, you get angry with them and want them back just the same. Maybe you can get your roommate to duet this song with you because that's the ultimate goal.
So there you go, six songs to have on repeat and add to your everyday playlist. Maybe one will be your new shower song or the one that your friends crank up in the car. I hope you have fun with them, and get your gro
