Music plays a huge role in my life. It's there for me through every heartbreaking emotion to being an overjoyed dancing queen. Music helps me write and it helps me process whatever problem I happen to be going through. These last few months, I have found solace in the following songs that have helped me deal with some sad feels.
1. Million Reasons by Lady Gaga
This song is my favorite on Lady Gaga's new record, Joanne. You can hear the raw emotion she sings with and it goes straight to my heart. Relationships are the best and worst, you do your best to make the other happy, but sometimes there's this moment where you question everything. You start thinking of all the bad things you've endured and you get so dark and hurt and then you remember the times you were happy. It's those memories that make you want to fight and survive; even if you have those million reasons to leave, you find that one reason to stay. You stay because through all that shit, you love that person and you don't want to let go. So you pray and you let hope thrive and you stay.
2. Still Breathing by Green Day
Life hits you like a bullet every once in a while, it cuts into you like glass slowly chipping away at your inside. You try to remove all the pieces, and after you're a bloody mess, but you're alive. You are still breathing and fighting. This song is a fighters anthem and promises to keep moving and never give up. Billie Joe's voice is like home to me, so every time I hear it, it's like my own family telling me to keep my head up. He never fails.
3. Look After You by The Fray
I found this song randomly as I was looking for a different song by The Fray. After hearing it, I fell in love with the song. Everybody wants someone to tell them that they will be there for them, taking care of them. You want someone to call you baby and love you with everything they've got
4. The Difference by Nick Jonas
When you get into a new relationship, you want that new person to show how they are different from the last. Sometimes you're that person trying to show off, proving why you're different than the ex. You want to fix the person, make them happier than they were before, showing them the difference. I was that person, I wanted to be the best I could be to make my person happy. However, it can be damaging to one's self-esteem if trying to prove you're worth it takes over. There is a reason you're single and they're single. The past should be talked about, but not delved into, let it stay where it belongs.
5. Blue by Marina and the Diamonds
Breakups suck. Some days you will regret it and others you will rejoice in your freedom. I think the days we regret are the days we feel lonely. We don't want to feel sad and depressed. As the lyrics say, "Gimme love, gimme dreams, gimme a good self-esteem." "I don’t wanna feel blue anymore" You want the one night stand because you miss the person who took care of you, the person who held you when you were scared and needed love. However, that person was probably not good for you either, you broke up for a reason. Yet you go back to the old because it's what you know. It's a vicious cycle that has to be broken, but not without a little selfish care first. Who wants to feel blue?
6. For You by Serena Ryder
This song for me is about being in love and how much you do for that person. They are your everything and you want to do everything you can for them. "Heaven only knows how much I love you, Heaven only knows how much I care." My love for you is so great, I will take any pain for you because you are worth everything. I just hope you know that.
7. Medicine Man by Dorothy
I want a strong drink every time I hear this song. I want to be drunk or high and I want my emotions to flow and flow. Medicine Man is who you go to when you're broken and need the pain gone. It's the person who might work for the Devil or God depending on what they give you. The song is dark and stormy and I lose myself in her voice.
8. Gun in my Hand by Dorothy
Love is mysterious. It can give you peace or hurt. Love can dig that knife into your heart with no mercy and break you down. You ask why? What did I do for this to happen? Is this karma? When you're at a crossroad with a relationship, this song embodies all that you feel. Love will tear you apart, it's the coming back together part that shows the truth of it.
