7 Signs You Grew Up in Madison, New Jersey

This town may be small but there is a lot to be grateful for. From little league sports to friday night football games in high school, I could never picture myself growing up in another town. No matter the distance anyone travels for school or jobs, Madison will always be home and the friends we've made will always be family. If you grew up in Madison you know everything that goes on around town and everyone that lives in it. Odds are you will relate to every single one of these.

1. Dodge field

Most kids remember this field as where they grew up playing football cheerleading or baseball. It was and still is a main athletic field in the center of town. However, it is a hot spot for most junior schoolers to hang out on the weekends.

2. Bottle Hill Day

This day is one that many look forward to every year as the fall season approaches. It’s our town's celebration where there are kids amusement rides and games and tons of stands of all different vendors which include clothing and food. It’s a fun day where the whole downtown is blocked off.

3. You know everyone and everyone is related

Our town is so small it is hard to come across someone you don’t know. If you don’t know someone you will quickly make connections because everyone is related one way or another. Pictured above are cousins they went to and still go to MHS together. If you know one of them you know them all.

4. Chatham, Go Home

Our towns rival is the next town over called the Chatham Cougars. We can’t stand them and will never get along. Although we are pretty evenly matched at sports no one will ever forget the playoffs in high school football a few years ago where we beat them 58 - 0.

5. The Annual High School Thanksgiving football game

Every year on thanksgiving our high school football team plays Millburn. Everyone from both towns come, it’s a fun to watch and in a way its a high school reunion for all MHS Alumni.

6. Davis Red

One of the dearest families in town is the Davis family and they own a landscaping business. Somewhere in town, you will come across a bright red truck that says Davis Landscaping or one of Frank's sons and friends wearing a bright red shirt with the name on it. Everyone loves them and almost every person in town owns a piece of clothing from them. Davis Red for life!

7. Dodger Nation

This is an organization that started in 2010 by two local town fathers. They host tailgates at all home games and playoff games. They were lucky enough to host 4 State Championship tailgates in the past six years. If you attend any sports games at the high school or even middle school you will likely see someone wearing a Dodger Nation shirt.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
