6 Signs You're The Daughter Of A Single Dad

1. Your personality is neither too much of each gender.

You might have played with girly toys because those were the types of things your dad thought you liked. He didn’t really know how to dress you when you were little either. Your dad equally let you paint his toenails and roughhouse with you; he also was your guest for teatime but also your opponent in some one-on-one basketball. To this day you’re still that girl that goes out of her way to make sure her makeup is on fleek, but can hike up Yosemite, even with a bunch of dudes who don’t take breaks, like a champ.

2. Your dad was your bro, sister, mom, and BFF.

When you needed someone to talk to about how fake your one friend was, your dad was your BFF. He listened, agreed, and talked smack about her with you. When you got really bad cramps and insane mood swings from that time of the month, your dad was your sister and totally understood by buying you chocolate and leaving you alone. When school was getting stressful and all you could do was cry and let it out, your dad was your mom and comforted you and told you it would be all right. But when you needed someone to pick on and play sports with, your dad was your bro but still always let you win.

3. You’re Miss Independent.

You never so desperately wanted the attention or love from another guy because his love, including all that tough love, was always enough. You also never let guys pay for dates because your dad always taught you to make and spend your own money. He taught you the value of hard work and discipline. He also taught you a little about politics, economics, and the importance of making informed decisions, making you the boss a** b**** that you are.

4. Your dad is your other half.

Your dad knows you so, so well and vice versa. He can just tell by hearing your voice over the phone that you’re upset about something, even when you’re trying so hard to not let it show. He knows all of your strengths, weaknesses, and imperfections probably better than you do. If it weren’t for him, you wouldn’t know yourself at all.

5. Your dad is your knight in shining armor.

When you fell and scraped your knee, your dad rushed to you with a Band Aid and a kiss. When your heart was broken, he was there with a hug and a death threat. But he doesn’t only fix problems, he prevents them; which is why he is always making sure that silly boys don't go and do stupid things to hurt his baby girl.

6. You hold other guys to really high standards.

Despite it all, no matter how much you think you might not; you will eventually fall in love with another man. Knowing what all that your dad is - your person in time of need, your protector, and your best friend - why would you expect anything less than that from your significant other? Whichever guy you find that fits the glass slipper is one lucky fool and is definitely a keeper.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
