The New Year can bring feelings of anticipation and excitement. However, to many, it is also a source of anxiety. At the start of the New Year, we feel pressure to better ourselves, but we never allow ourselves to see that God is in control. So, as we approach 2017, here are just a few scriptures to help you remain positive about the change and provide us with hope rather than angst.
1. To remind us that the future is bright: Jeremiah 29:11
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plan to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"
2: To provide us with hope: Isaiah 40:30-3
"Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
3. To show us that we have reasons to celebrate God's goodness: Psalm 98:1
"Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things, his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him."
4. To remind us that we can be changed through Christ: Ephesians 22-24
"You were taught with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
5. To tell us to remain faithful this new year: Psalm 31: 23-24
"Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full. Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD."
6. To remind us that healing is coming through our hardships: 2 Kings 20:5
"I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you."
Of course, there are many more scriptures that could provide us with a certain amount of hope and peace for the coming year. However, these scriptures should serve as small reminders on what kind of attitude we should have toward life and the future. Happy New Year and I wish you all a great start to 2017!
