Halloween is a time to dress up and have fun. However, while trick-or treating there are still many precautions to take. If you’re wondering how you can be extra safe this year, here’s how:
1. Stay lit up
Parents can wear orange safety vests if they aren’t wearing a costume that way their children can easily spot them. There are also special Halloween light up necklaces that can be purchased for kids and parents to wear so it’s easier to be spotted by one another.
2. Stick together
Even though you can take extra precautions to be able to spot one another from afar, it is still better to stick together so it doesn’t have to even get to the point where you’re trying to locate a member of your group.
3. Keep costumes safe
It’s better for kids to paint their face rather than wear a mask because the mask can obstruct their vision. Make sure their costume length isn’t too long so they don’t trip anytime during the night. Any “dangerous” props should definitely be just that; a prop. Real weapons are not definitely not recommended.
4. Walk safely
Walk on sidewalks and stay out of the streets because there will be a lot of cars that night that will be distracted by other things. Just be extra careful when crossing the streets if you really need to. Tip #1 will also help with this.
5. Drive extra safe
It's Halloween and let’s face it, people will be drinking which means there will be drunk drivers out there. Be extra cautious of the drivers around you. Also, take extra time to look out for trick-or-treaters crossing the streets. The most common trick-or-treating times are about 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
6. Check the candy
And last but certainly not least, check the candy. Everyone knows it’s necessary to check all of the candy after you’re done trick-or-treating. There are some dangerous people out there that get pleasure out of hurting others by tampering with the candy. Any open or suspicious looking treats should be thrown out immediately.
