6 Reasons Why Your Cat Is Your Soulmate

We all have a little bit of cat lady in us. Some of us like to express it, others like to pretend you hate cats, but when no one is looking you pet a cat and get the little twinge of pure happiness that comes with a little feline loving. The constant joke about cat ladies is that we are all alone in this world. We will one day be knitting on a fur-coated couch with no husband or children. I'm here to tell you that we aren’t alone at all and that sweater you’ve been working on for a week will look purr-fect on the newest addition to your always-growing family of cats. I have no shame in admitting that my cat is a better companion then most humans, specifically of the male variety. Here are six solid reasons why your cat is your soulmate.

1. They are easy to take care of.

All you need to do is feed them and make sure they have a box to poop in. Humans require a full course meal, complete with dessert, 3 times a day and toilet paper. No one has time for that.

2. They demand your attention and you actually want to give it to them.

When humans want attention and they demand it they are needy, clingy and annoying. No one likes a needy, clingy or annoying human, but if you're a cat, it's fine

3. They are cute and stay cute.

Have you ever seen an ugly cat? (Hairless not included) I haven't. With humans, you have to factor in the personality and let’s face it, some people are just not all that great. Imagine a little old lady with a purse full of hard candies, now imagine an old, fat, lazy cat; way cuter right?

4. They give the best cuddles.

After a long day, it feels wonderful to lie in bed and know that your cat will be there soon after, either to lie right next to you or directly on top of you. It is probably one of the most rewarding feelings in the world, forget childbirth.

5. Cats are great listeners.

Does your cat talk back to you? Does he interrupt you to tell you he’s already heard that story more than once? He or she may ‘meow’ at you, but honestly that can mean anything. Personally, I just assume that they are agreeing with me and telling me how stupid that guy who stood me up was. I can’t remember the last time I had a boyfriend who agreed with me on anything or showed up for that matter. Cats for the win again.

6. They live a wonderful life.

Honestly who wouldn’t want to be a cat? I would love to sleep for most of the day and not be judged. Eat as much food as I want. Or eat my owner’s queso when they’re not looking. I could walk around on counters and tables and just not care about anything at all.

Let your inner cat lady out. If you are still in that dark closet full of confusion and cat hate, I hope you come to your senses soon. Just remember, you are never alone when you have a cat. You will always have that one little ball of fur that will depend on you for food, listen to you complain about all your irrelevant human issues, and love you. Now, shut your computer give your cat the attention they deserve, because he or she is your soulmate after all.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
