Dying your hair is the worst thing you could possibly do to your hair.

Every girl loves their hair, but what we don’t love is taking care of it. I never touched my hair with anything other than shampoo and conditioner until I was fifteen. Someone convinced me I would look great as a blonde. At the time I had medium brown hair. Well three bleaching and dying sessions later, I was a blonde. I loved the new look I had, but what I didn’t love, was my hair died when I dyed it. I still continued to dye my hair over the past six years, and now I regret it. So ladies, here are six reasons why you shouldn’t dye your hair.

1. Your hair will feel dryer than the Sahara desert.

It may feel so soft and smooth for a few days, but after a few washes, it just gets so dried out. Seriously, one time my dad was messing with me saying he bet he could get a spark out of my hair if he rubbed it together fast enough... I didn’t let him try that though!

2. The amount of damage to your hair will make you cry.

It’s dry, the ammonia is lifting up your hair cuticle, and the peroxide destroys your natural hair color. After dying my hair a total of eleven times, my hair was so damaged I had to cut it all off. I now have a shoulder length bob. My hair was so long, it was down to my waist. Imagine cutting twenty six inches off, I cried like a baby in the salon that morning.

3. The upkeep on any hair coloring is expensive.

To get that beautiful chocolate brown color and keep it, you have to keep touching it up, which means more trips to the hair salon, or Walmart. Don’t even get me started on the upkeep of highlights. Let’s just say I had roots a mile long before I could afford to get my hair touched up. Salons have very high prices, and box dye is the worst thing to put on your hair. Their really is not a winning situation here. You’re going to spend a mini fortune by the time you have finished with hair coloring.

4. New trends are always popping up.

Checking pinterest, tumblr, or even twitter and you will see so many unique and pretty awesome hair colors and styles. From silver hair, to having a rainbow underneath. It is all great and very cool ideas, but again the upkeep will kill your bank account. Plus after you go silver, then the in style will be platinum blonde. So if you’re one to keep up with all trends, your hair won’t be your best friend.

5. If you are anything like me, you hate to hear the “I told you so.” from your parents.

My Mom told me I shouldn’t dye my hair and I should leave it alone. Well, I didn’t listen and dyed my hair a bunch, and now it’s “I told you so.” and trust me it gets annoying...

6. Natural is always better!

Natural hair is so beautiful. The color you were born with is what you should keep! Natural anything is always healthier and better for you! Embrace the blonde, brown, or red hair you were born with.

Now if you have the money to keep up with the upkeep and conditioning treatments to keep your hair healthy, then dye away! If you don’t well think twice ladies before you dye your hair!

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.
