6 Reasons You Should Travel To Greece

I have spent the last two weeks exploring Greece. It was truly amazing. From the breathtaking views to the amazing food, Greece was definitely one of my favorite vacations. It has always been on my bucket list to visit this amazing place. Yes, Greece is in a state of economic turmoil and political chaos. But should that stop you going on vacation? Absolutely not. Channel your inner "Mamma Mia." Here are a few reasons why you should hop on the plane…

1. The views

Santorini is hands down one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to in my life. The little white buildings with blue roofs line the cliffs. It looks like a painting. Walking through the streets and seeing hot pink flowers against the white and blue buildings is so romantic. Some may know Santorini from "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,"and let me tell you it looks even better in person than on the movie screen.

2. The food

Perhaps the only trip you’ll take where you don’t feel guilty indulging in the food, visiting Greece includes eating healthy dishes that are jam-packed with different flavors. Each recipe has been perfected and passed down through different generations for Greek cuisine that is made with fresh and local ingredients. If it’s your first time exploring the destination, don’t leave without trying a traditional gyro, a fresh kebab, and deep fried cheese, also known as Saganaki. For dessert, baklava is the way to go. You just can't go wrong with layers of delicate pastry and nuts all covered in honey.

3. The history

No trip to Greece is complete without first taking a look at the Acropolis, which offers a look back at the historic civilization. The Epidaurus Theatre is another common place for tourists to explore and has stood since the fourth century when it once functioned as a healing and cultural center. The monuments are incredible and is totally worth waiting in line 45 minutes.

4. The beaches

The shades of blue, turquoise, and aqua of the Mediterranean are truly unimaginable. No picture can do it justice. The water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom even in deep water. I spent most of my time in Greece in Santorini and Milos, both which are islands off the mainland. The beaches are some of the best I have ever explored. The only thing is that there isn't very much sand. Most of the beaches are rocky because the islands are all almost made out of volcanic rock.

5. The people

As Americans we sometimes have a stigma of Greek people being rude. I did not find that to be the case at all. I found that the Greek people would bend over backwards for you or go completely out of their way to help you. I did not once meet a person who was rude or not willing to help me, even if they didn't speak a word of English. The Greeks made this vacation one to remember, I will always remember my new Greek friends.

6. The adventure

Greece isn't only for relaxing on beaches. There is a sense of adventure and thrill on the islands as well. From cliff-jumping to climbing volcanos, the islands of Greece have it all. A couple of shots of ouzo (famous Greek liquor) and you will be surprised what daring things you are willing to try in this amazing country.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
