A few days ago, I went to a drag show that my school, Armstrong State University, put together with the lovely drag queens from Club One in Savannah, Georgia. This event, along with many others this past month, was in support of the LGBT+ community for Pride Month. I went to the drag show that was held at my school last semester and had the time my life, so I figured I would go again this year. As I expected, I had a blast. This is something I thoroughly enjoy doing and recommend others would go do as well. Here is why I think you should go to a drag show.

1. So much makeup inspiration!

While I was at the drag show, I noticed myself saying “I love their makeup!” so many times. For me, makeup is a way I express myself and is a hobby of mine. If you are like me when it comes to makeup, going to a drag show will definitely give you inspiration for new makeup looks. The drag queens have such a large variation of how they do their makeup, so the possibilities for makeup looks are endless!

2. The music is great.

Drag queens love to lip sing during their performances. They will sing all kinds of music ranging from pop to hip hop to musicals. Some of the music may be the latest hits on the radio and some may be old classics that you haven’t heard in a while. Regardless of what it is, you might find yourself singing and dancing along at your seat. You might even feel like you are at a concert.

3. The jokes are hilarious.

Drag queens love to have fun, so there will be numerous jokes being thrown around. You will probably end up laughing your butt off the whole night. If you end up with a really great host, you will hear jokes between all the acts and I can guarantee you that you will love it. Also, even some of the performances are made to be comedic. One of the drag queens I was at the drag show I went to performed to the song “Starving” by Hailee Steinfeld while eating Popeye’s and it was hysterical. Some may even wear funny costumes or dance in a comical manner.

4. It will lift your mood.

When I went to the drag show at my school, I was in the midst of the last 2 to 3 weeks of the semester, which happen to be the most stressful time of the semester. I have been finding myself frequently upset and in a rut. Nothing really seemed to make me feel much better. When I went to the drag show though, I felt a smile across my face the entire show. I haven’t smiled that much in such a long time. My face was hurting quite a bit by the end of the show. I was very happy that I went because I genuinely felt happy and for once, I wasn’t worrying about school and other things going on in my life. So if you find yourself in the same or similar situation that I was in, I definitely recommend going to a drag show to lift your mood.

5. It is a great opportunity to go out with your friends.

Both times I went to a drag show I went with my dear friends. It made the experience so much better because I was able to make great memories with them. We had so much fun at the first one that we went to the next one. If you go to a drag show, you can bring your good friends and even family to have a good time and make great memories.

6. You can support the LGBT community.

One of the most important reasons why you should go to a drag show is to support the LGBT community. There are many people out there who give drag shows a bad name because of the sexuality of the performers. They think that it is a terrible and negative thing to go to. Little do they know though that these wonderful drag queens are just like everyone else regardless of their sexuality and what they do. Drag shows are a fun and positive experience that showcases many of the great attributes of the LGBT community that many people fail to see.

I hope this convinced you to go to a drag show in your near future. It was one of the great experiences that I have ever had the chance to live through. I sure hope you get to have as much of a great time as I did!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
