6 Reasons Why You Should Attend The Stony Brook Film Festival
Stony Brook

Stony Brook University's 22nd annual Film Festival is currently underway, showcasing amazing films from all around the world every night from now until July 29th. The festival highlights a variety of films from a large variety of places and should be at the top of your Long Island summer bucket list.

Check out the video below to get a glimpse of what is in store for the festival:

If you are still undecided on whether or not you will attend, here are six more reasons why you definitely should:

1. Tickets are only $5 for Stony Brook students!

That's a great price to see such incredible work. General tickets are $12, which is the same price as seeing a movie at Loews. It's even a little cheaper!

2. Seeing a film is a great way to escape this awful heat.

Why be outside in this 90-degree weather when you can be relaxing and watching a movie in an air-conditioned theater?

3. There are films featured from all over the world.

The festival is including feature films and shorts from countries like Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Latvia, and Norway — just to name a few!

4. A few films include women who are the director, writer AND lead actor of their films.

This is the case for the closing night film, "Text For You," and "The Sounding." It's both awesome and important to see women being successful and making such an impact in the film industry.

5. The festival showcases a wide range of movie genres, so there is something everyone will enjoy.

Whether it's romance, comedy, drama, or even animation, you can find a film that suits your interests. Playing on Wednesday, July 26th, a documentary titled "The Second Act of Elliot Murphy" is about the rock musician/ songwriter and will be immediately followed by a live performance from Elliot Murphy himself, which will be a cool experience for everyone.

6. It is a great opportunity to get together with family and friends for a fun night of film.

Overall, the Stony Brook Film Festival is a chance to celebrate family, friends, and film.

Come check it out!

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
