6 Reasons Why Western New York Is The Greatest Place To Live
Abigail Taylor

"Where do you live?"

"New York"

"The CITY?!"

"Uhh, no.."

If you're from New York, but not from the city, you understand this completely. For most people who don't live near New York (the state), they don't seem to remember that New York is in fact a large state with many areas and people, and not just the city. Especially if you're from Western New York, we tend to be the forgotten population of the west, only remembered when someone mentions Buffalo or Niagara Falls. But in fact, Western New York is a fabulous place to live, and it's time we start giving the recognition it deserves. Here are some reasons why Western New York is the best place to be.

1. Our seasons.

We get all four, very distinctly. Warm, humid summers full of green trees and swimming in the lakes, cool falls with every color imaginable across the hills, and winters that get enough snow to make it fun to go skiing and make giant snowmen. It's one of my favorite things about this area, because every season is so distinct and has so many different things to offer.

2. One of the natural wonders of the world...in our backyard.

Honestly, I kind of forget Niagara Falls is here because I'm so used to it. People from all over the world come to the falls to see the beauty, but for us, it's not a big deal. It was part of my elementary schooling--the 2nd grade trip to the falls. Pretty cool how its like, right there.

3. POP.

That's right, it's called pop. Not soda. I love that we call it pop, and I really think it makes more sense. Pop and chips. Pizza and pop. Doesn't that just sound right together?

4. Beautiful scenery.

If you've never seen the rolling hills of Western New York in the fall, or you've never seen the gentle farmland blowing in the summer breeze, you're missing out. I love our hills, rivers, trees, and fields. In some spots, you can see for miles, and sometimes you'll be driving and encounter a wonderful sparkling lake.

5. Buffalo traditions.

Even though not everyone in this area lives near Buffalo, we kind of all bond together in the terrible sports, great wings, and weird traditions. Yes, I do live 2 hours south of Buffalo, but of course I'm a die hard Bills fan and on my deathbed I will probably request wings. As Western New Yorkers, we are also proud of Buffalo and kind of consider ourselves part of that culture.

6. Our pride.

We've got a streak of pride that will never go away. We are NOT NYC. We are NOT Central or Upstate New York. We are Western New York and we are proud. We are proud of Lake Erie, and Buffalo, and we like to stay on our side of New York. I sometimes even forget NYC is part of my state, because I'm a hardcore WNY fan, born and raised.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.
