6 Reasons Why Long Distance Friendships Are Actually The Best

Having attended many summer programs, gone to sleep-away camp, and now moving on to college, I can easily say that a large bulk of my closest friends live in different cities or states. Though these friendships are unlike the typical ones, they are honestly some of the best I could ever ask for. Having friends all over has not only been an interesting experience, but definitely a rewarding one. Here are my reasons why long distance friendships are truly amazing.

1) Phone/Facetime dates

Though many miles apart, just seeing them through a screen or hearing their voice makes up for it all. Just because they can’t physically be by your side to hear about your day or laugh at something you want to tell them doesn’t mean they aren’t a quick phone or Facetime call away. Usually the little updates and intentionally short calls turn into multiple hour long Facetime dates that consume full nights, but its completely okay because it’s the little things that count.

2) Seeing each other is so much more special

Sure, it’d be amazing to get to see each other all the time, but having friends in different cities and states make the times you can see each other that much more meaningful. Not only do you get really excited to find out that its finally happening for the first time in a while, but the anticipation and build up until the day you’re reunited is incredible. Not to mention that first hug after many month apart, what an amazing feeling.

3) You have connections all over

Going on family vacations is so much nicer because you usually have a friend to visit no matter where you go. Having long distance friends also adds multiple destinations to a huge list of places you have to visit, because you should definitely see your friends, but you should also experience a totally new place.

4) The friendship is extremely genuine

There’s no doubt that relationships without physical contact and interaction are that much more difficult to maintain. Having to put in so much extra effort to keep these friendships growing based predominantly off of social media and technology shows how genuine they can truly be.

5) Their drama stays in their life, and yours stays in your life

Friends that you see all the time and go to school with are usually sucked into the drama of your day to day life because well, they live it too. While friends from other places can be there for you (and usually give the best advice in these cases), your lives stay separate enough that they’re not fully involved. When home life gets tough, they’re the best people to come to about it.

6) They’re always there for you

You can manage to live in different places, have completely separate lives, and still maintain a beautiful friendship. No matter what happens in life, these are the friends that will always be there for you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
