6 Reasons Why Leaving Southern California Is Difficult

Choosing where one will attend college is always a very difficult process. The process of vacating home is a struggle for most people. Students attending college out-of-state are even more aware of this struggle. Furthermore, the select few who leave Southern California when heading off to college face the harshest culture shock.

Nonetheless, everyone who leaves Southern Californi will know and relate to these struggles a little too well.

1. Weather or not it was worth moving.

haha... get it!?

The world knows that we are superior all because our superb weather. Where else in the world can you go that will be 70°F every single day while remaining sunny and never cloudy. Soak up some Vitamin D, because you will not be getting any of it when you are in a blizzard.

2. No More Taco Tuesday.

I know this one is still a sore subject. But in other areas, people do not celebrate Taco Tuesday as a regular, weekly holiday. And they also think Taco Bell is authentic Mexican food, which it is NOT.

3. Earthquakes are actually scary?!

Yeah, I know. Earthquakes happen constantly, to the point where true Southern Californians do not even feel them. However, everywhere else... people do?!? Crazy.

4. You will never stop craving In-N-Out. EVER.

You will legitimately never forget the sweet taste of success that comes with eating a simple hamburger from In-N-Out. Of course, unless you are blessed enough to move out-of-state to the few places that have this miracle.

I guess there are other decent hamburgers around.... But In-N-Out is the only In-N-Out burger.

5. The Happiest Place on Earth.

Yes. The Disneyland Resort is no rarity to those of us who live nearby the magic kingdom. We all know someone who works there that we can beg to sign us in. In addition, you never know who you might see at this spectacular place. Not to play to the stereotype that we see famous people every single day, but it is not completely untrue.

6. FRESH AVOCADO.

We all have a "slight" obsession with avocados. But, can you really blame us? They are amazing and deserve more recognition. They are just another one of the underrated treasures that you will miss when you leave.

In the final analysis, it seems very evident that Southern California is the best place on the planet. So why are we leaving in the first place? To get away from all of this perfection?! Who knows? It can be an amazing experience to live somewhere completely different than where you are from, but you will never know until you try it!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
