6 Reasons Why Ice Cream Is The Guilty Pleasure No One Should Feel Guilty About
Cami Buba

If someone were to limit me to only one kind of dessert for the rest of my life I'd choose ice cream, don't even have to think about it. There are so many options and there are so many different kinds: ice cream, sherbet, sorbet, soft serve, fro-yo and frozen tofu "yogurt" ( don't knock it until you try it). And then to make it better, toppings! Being from the north I'm partial to soft serve with jimmies ( chocolate sprinkles *). Or hot fudge, hot and cold in the perfect fusion of yummy-ness for your taste buds. Why feel bad about a little treat, so what you get it every night? Anything can be okay in moderation. Just don't go crazy and you'll be fine. Don't feel bad about this guilty pleasure, when you feel assured in your ice cream eating decisions you won't be feeling any guilt.

1. It's creamy, smooth and cold.

It's the perfect summer treat, beats hot and muggy nights like it's its' job. Ice cold just like it says in the name. The smoothness practically makes it melt in your mouth, if the sun doesn't do that anyway. When it's humid and it feels like you're swimming through the air, an icy cold blast in a cup or cone is a great way to, "come up for air."

2. It's perfect for every kind of craving.

Do you want something salty? Try a salted caramel or something with potato chips in it for a little crunch and salt. Something fruity perhaps? Try the classic old-fashioned strawberry or purple cow, if you wanna go new and unique. Or the end all be all, chocolate. With so many varieties:nuts, swirls, chunks, pieces, swirls and chunks. Yummo!

3. Ice cream eating is your childhood in a sitting.

You're eating your childhood. Not in a creepy way, but more so it's instant nostalgia. Like when you go to your usual ice cream shoppe and there a tiny human who is absolutely devouring some rainbow colored something and it is all over their entire mouth. Maybe even in their hair or on their elbow because that's how tiny humans eat their ice cream, with total abandon. A priceless moment to say the least.

4. It's good.

There's not really a need for a long explanation for this one. It's not the most healthy late night snack or dessert. But if you're going for it, go for it. Go big or go home. You're already doing it, if you feel bad about it, that takes out half the fun. Don't ruin it for yourself. Just enjoy.

5. There are endless options.

Let me repeat that: endless options. No limit to what you can consume. Every idea imaginable is at your reach and taste. Whether that's mint chip, bubble gum, rocky road, blue vanilla, etc. Once again, endless. All it takes is one idea from one person to create an absolutely delicious flavor.

6. Finding your go-to spot.

It's fun and it's an adventure. A few years back I went on a cupcake tour with friends and family. Best. Decision. Ever. Nothing but laughs and sugary sweetness. I can only imagine how much fun an ice cream tour must be. I have my true favorites around town, but finding new places with new flavors and experiences is the start of summer. Go out and make a day of it, it'll be nothing but sweet memories.

With all these reasons and reminders of why ice cream is so great, there is no reason to feel guilty about this guilty pleasure.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
