6 Reasons Why I Dislike Summer Vacation

For every student across the country, summer vacation is the best time of the year. With no school and more free time, summer is everything a college student can hope for. There are many students who love summer vacation, but there are some students who don't necessarily feel the same way. One of those students is me. Don't get me wrong, summer is a great time for students to spend some quality time with their friends and family, as well as have fun in the sun. I sure as hell can use a few months to relax and come back to school with energy, but summer and I have a 'hot and cold' relationship. I don't hate summer, but I simply dislike it. Here are my reasons:

1. The Heat

I can honestly say I'd rather freeze in the middle of winter than boil in the middle of summer. The heat is so unbearable that I am actually considering about moving to Alaska. I am not a fan of summer heat, and the summer's heat is not a fan of me!

2. Summer gets boring after a while.

Since we are all out of school our schedules are filled with free time. Free time is good if you have plans 24/7, but after a while it gets a little boring because there is no routine. I have been wanting to go back after one month of summer –– not even!

3. There's more to do in fall than there is in summer.

Going to faster horses is fun and all, but there is more activities to do in fall than there is in summer, especially in Michigan. You can go to the cider mill, the pumpkin patch, haunted houses or downtown. I bet summer can't top that!

4. There's no holiday movie for summer.

There's no holiday movie in summer because there are more holiday's in the fall and winter! I mean who doesn't love holiday movies like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" or "Frosty the Snowman!" I sure as hell do! I know that summer does contain one holiday, which would be the Fourth of July, but I highly doubt that Tim Burton made a children's movie about celebrating America's Independence. Summer is no match to fall and winter when it comes to the classics.

5. There are more fashion trends in the fall than there is for summer.

If there is one thing I live for is something that I have always loved since I was a little girl it's fashion! When you compare summer to fall, summer loses the race when it comes to the latest trends. The hot and steamy season comes with maybe two or three trends, but in fall the list never ends. Honestly, who can resist blanket scarves and booties? Not me!

6. After not even two months of summer, I miss school and want to go back.

After months of boredom and no regular routine, my only wish is to go back to school! Oakland University became my home away from home and I am excited to go back with the energy to help me kick semester booty! I think that is the one thing I am grateful for summer. Summer vacation gives all of us a chance to relax and regain our motivation, which we lost from a year of non-stop exams and final projects. Now that I have had all the time I needed to recharge, I am ready to go back to school and continue my journey to graduation!

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
