6 Reasons Why Christmas Time Makes Me Feel Like A Little Kid Again

As Christmas is right around the corner, I can't help but get a little excited like a little kid again. Here are 6 reasons why, even as I get older, Christmas time still makes me act like a little kid.

1. Before opening all the presents, getting the tree

As much as opening presents is so fun, getting the Christmas tree is the beginning to the Christmas fun and experience. And the best part about getting the tree is bringing it home and getting to decorate it. Decorating the tree is one of my favorite things to do during Christmas time because I get to sort through all the Christmas ornaments. I even have ornaments that my parents used to put on their trees when they were little kids.

2. Decorating the outside of my house

Almost every year, my family and I get to light up the neighborhood by putting out the lights for everyone to see. We have the traditional Santa Claus and reindeer. But then we have the not so traditional, pig. Yes I have a Christmas pig that lights up. My mom loves pigs.

3. Christmas Eve

Every Christmas Eve my family and I get in the car and go look around at Christmas lights. To be honest, when I was younger, I didn't really appreciate the beauty of all the light, but as I got older it really started to. The best part of coming back from this is getting to open up one gift.

4. Christmas morning and the presents, of course

Even though I am 19, I still get super excited when my parents finally tell my brother and I that we can go and open up our presents, after begging them to get up 3 times before that.

5. The Stockings

Although the presents are the best part, the getting to look inside my stocking, before I open up my presents, gives me a little glimpse as to what my parents have in store for the rest of the presents waiting to be opened.

6. Christmas dinner

I love having this because it really is a special moment I get to share with my family and even when I was younger I still loved this. Being in college and away from home, this years Christmas dinner will be the best because I truly miss home cook meals.

Christmas time will always be my favorites time of year no matter how old I get.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
