6 Reasons To Love Belmont University

Alumni, students, and prospective Bruins all know it to be true: Belmont University in one of a kind. When you get to campus, you can feel it. Maybe it’s the caffeine in the air from Bongo Java across the street, or maybe it’s the energy from this unique university. Regardless, there’s nothing else quite like Belmont University. Here are some great reasons to love this school:

  1. The Campus. Belmont’s campus is consistently ranked as one of the best campuses, especially in an urban setting, in the entire United States. There’s no question why, as it boasts gazebos with fairy lights, old oak trees, flower gardens, and on top of it all, a beautiful historic mansion! The campus’s old southern charm radiates from the older buildings, but the recent expansions allow state-of-the-art facilities that make a huge difference for students. Nothing puts you in a good mood quite like seeing the tulips blossoming and students lounging around on Patton’s lawn, especially on a warm day.
  2. The Location. Nashville certainly is incredible. Music City treats Belmont students right, which is why the location makes this university such a great place to learn. By being in the heart of Music Row, students are able to engage in their education both inside and outside the classroom, The city also boasts wonderful coffee shops, cafes, high-end restaurants, and everything in between. Weekends are truly a time of exploration for students, as Nashville is always changing, and there is always something to do.
  3. The Academics. Belmont is a community of students that challenge each other to the best of their ability. The professors care about students, and often inspire them to work outside the box, making their own path. Biology students are able to work at the local zoo while music business students have artists such as The Band Perry visit for a show. The school is able to bridge the gap between learning inside the classroom so seamlessly with learning applicable, real life skills that students will use later in life.
  4. The Students. A Belmont student is unlike any other. They are one of a kind, driven, quirky, responsible, unique, and everything that the world so desperately needs. Belmont students inspire each other daily, working together to achieve goals and make a mark on the world. Every single student cares about the university, the people around them, and the world as whole, which is something altogether unheard of in college communities. There’s always a way for students to get involved and explore themselves.
  5. The Sports. Yes, that’s right, we’re Division I! No one ever seems to believe that a music school can do more than one thing, but Belmont has a great athletic following. Some of the teams include men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, volleyball, and more. The athletes are crazy talented. So talented, in fact, that the men’s basketball team was featured in March Madness just last year. This music school really can do it all, and there’s nothing like watching a good game to add some school spirit.
  6. The Opportunities. Belmont students have the most amazing opportunities, both in their backyard and around the world. Students are given the opportunity to travel abroad, even for a short period of time, through the Maymester experience. Students have amazing internship opportunities with corporations like Universal Music Group, Disney, and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. Whether a student is interested in music, nursing, exercise science, or theatre, there is an opportunity to get involved and learn more about that field. Belmont makes it easy for students to go outside their comfort zone, while still allowing them to be safe and at home in the university itself.

So whether you’re a senior in high school looking at Belmont this fall, or you’re a returning student ready for another year, remember to love Belmont. If you love Belmont, it’ll certainly love you back. There are plenty of reasons to enjoy every single day waking up at this school.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
