Set in Birmingham, England after World War II, the series follows the lives of the historical Peaky Blinders gang, headed by fictional character Tommy Shelby. As Tommy and the rest of the Shelby family seek to expand their crime empire, they are continuously at war with other gangs and have to find ways to worm their way out of trouble with the law.
1. Action
The members of the Peaky Blinders sew razor blades into their caps in order to blind their enemies, regularly cause explosions and mayhem, and do so all while strutting around in stylish suits.
2. Dramatic gun-pointing
Obviously gun violence is a part of the action, but guns are pulled so frequently throughout the series that it deserved its own category. The members of The Peaky Blinders often even point guns at each other. But don't worry they don't always pull the trigger.
3. The sass and witty comebacks used by the characters
You might have to turn your volume up to hear it in some cases, especially since many of the characters have strong accents but it's worth straining your ears to hear.
4. Romance
No spoilers, but Tommy Shelby may or may not have a heart. He does a good job at keeping everyone guessing.
5. Strong female characters and feminism
Aunt Polly of the Peaky Blinders is a strong woman who doesn't answer to any man, least of all her gangster nephews. In season one she points out that while women who have children out of wedlock are labeled, whores and their sons are called bastards, there is no word for the man who doesn't come back. While there are instances of women taking charge in the show, it is set in a time where women did not have many rights and so...
...feminist ideals are not always displayed.
6. Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby
Those cheekbones and those eyes...enough said.
The only downside to watching this show is that there are currently only two seasons on Netflix with just 6 episodes each. You'll be finished watching before you know it.
