6 Reasons You Want To Go Back To School

College summers aren't as fun as college semesters.

Let's face facts. School is right around the corner. There's no way to avoid it, there never has been and never will be a way to avoid it (until you graduate, but for many it doesn't stop there). The horror of attending classes and having school work to do is nearing, and that means that all the fun of summer is coming to an end. Just think...

Wait a second. This isn't high school anymore. Going back to school isn't a bad thing. Summer isn't as fun as it used to be. We work jobs now. Not the fun kind either. The boring, intern-y type jobs that we have to work to get experience on our resumes, those are what we do. So maybe going back to school isn't such a bad thing after all. Well, here are 6 reasons that going back to school is actually pretty good.

1. Friends

If you're like me, you really needed to get to college and get some new friends. And if you're like me, you really miss those friends when you leave school for the summer (Looking at you, Dan and Ben). When you go back to school, you get to see them and have them back in your life, which is pretty exciting stuff.

2. Freedom

Being chained up in a cubicle all day takes a toll on the mind. It's almost like prison, if you think about it. Being back at school really gives you some free time during the day to do activities between classes that you couldn't do at home because you had to organize one-thousand spreadsheets at work.

3. Variation

Branching off of the Freedom point, being at school means that you get plenty of variation during the day. Despite having class again, you'll get to do everything else that you like doing at school like playing frisbee or whatever it is nonathletes do at college (I wouldn't know, athletics owns my life lol)

4. Class

Yeah, I said it. Class. Yes we all hate our classes sometimes, but occasionally you'll actually really enjoy a class or a professor and it'll be a good way to enjoy your time at school. Unless that class is circuits. Circuits is awful.

5. Sports

Whether you're on a team or not, having lots of sports on TV and on campus to go watch is a pretty nice luxury to have. That way, you have something to see other than baseball like you've been forced into for the past 2 months. (Not knocking baseball, I wrote an article about it in May) If you're on a team, you get to hang out with your teammates and joke around about how much of your life that sport is consuming.

6. Parties

No, I didn't forget. I just put it last on the list because you knew it had to be on here but were probably thinking I forgot. I don't really have to explain this one do I?

When you get back to school, you'll be glad you're there during the day instead of at a desk. I can guarantee that.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
