If you don't know by now that Bernie Sanders is running for the democratic presidential candidacy, then -
Okay, I actually don't know what was supposed to follow the "then," but anyhow. College kids and even older high school students who have been following the constant campaigning for the 2016 primary season have been criticized by older adults and even millennial conservatives for supportingSanders. They say, "Of course college kids are going to support Bernie Sanders; all they want is free stuff." And I mean, sure, everyone loves some free stuff. But here are six reasons, some political and some completely not, that millennials are feeling the bern.
1. He feels like your grandpa for some reason.
I have yet to figure out how he manages to give off the grandpa vibe, but he does. And it's not even because he's old, it's just like... some type of charm he's got goin' on. Sure he has some serious policies he's trying to implement, but is he taking you to lunch after the debate?
2. He's savage. That Hillary side-eye though.
Sanders isn't trying to hide his disapproval of his opponent. He'll talk over her BS and give visible body language that shows his disapproval if he has to. But it's not like... disrespectful savagery. It's just Sanders. You have to love it.
3. Speaking of things you have to love, he's passionate.
Sanders isn't up there reading something that someone else wrote for him. He speaks from the heart. He gets so fired up and passionate about whatever he's talking about. He could probably get fired up about what he had for breakfast (he seems like an oatmeal guy, tbh).
4. Nature loves him, so why wouldn't we?
The birds have spoken. Sanders for president. Trump? Not so much. But seriously, animals have such pure souls. You have to trust their judgment.
5. He feels like one of us.
Sanders doesn't give off this "I'm a big, bad politician and you're a mere citizen" vibe. He just feels like another citizen trying to accomplish good things for the rest of us. Sometimes when I see an old, skinny white man in public, I do a double take to make sure it isn't him. Like... he's that #relatable. Also, he advocates for the majority, not the top 1 percent! What a cool dude.
6. He is respectable.
Look, even if you think Sanders' ideals are wack and you're #ReadyForHillary or wanting to #MakeAmericaGreatAgain, you gotta' respect the guy. He's consistent, honest, funny and lovable. You don't see him supporting x one day and supporting y the next. And you can see him hosting SNL one day... that is an important quality of being president.
And you know, if you still don't love Sanders after reading this, that's OK. But millennials aren't feeling the Bern because he's trying to "give out free stuff." We're feeling the Bern because he relates to the majority.
