6 Reasons I Love Winter

Winter is such an unliked season by many. People in upstate NY complain about it all the time and yet, they still live here; ironic isn’t it? If people do say they like winter, it’s usually because they like snowboarding, skiing, or snowmobiling. I’ve made the decision, for now, that this northern land is where I want to start my 20’s living alone, and so, my complaint about the cold has lessened. Whenever I proudly claim to my friends that I love winter, I usually get a shocked expression in return. With that, here are the reasons as to why I love winter.

Holidays

Of course! Holidays are probably the best part of winter. Also, winter break, being that I am in college. After all, we need something to keep us warm and loving when the snow is falling.

Silence

“O Silent Night” is right! I am a person who prefers silence and alone time a lot more than the average person. Winter quiets everyone around me. All activity is brought back in doors which makes silent brisk walks perfect for the time being.

Darker Days

Did I mention that I was also a night owl? The night is my prime time, the moment I am most awake and brimming with creative thoughts. There is something about the silence of the night that gives me an open mind for creativity to blossom.

Hot Drinks/Food

My favorite way to drink tea or coffee is hot. In the summer, hot drinks are just an absolute no. In the winter everything is heated. Hot Cider, Hot Chocolate, Hot Coffee, Hot Tea, Chili, Hot Gravy, Hot Soup… the list goes on.

Reflection

When people are spent most of their days indoors, there is plenty of time for reflection. I love these silent moments when I can be with myself and reflect. Thinking is one of my favorite activities.

Cozy Up!

They say winter is the prime time for couples and romance to bloom because all we want to do is cuddle up underneath a blanket and watch movies. I love this time to bundle up as much as I can and indulge in the warmth and love.

Winter may not be your favorite season of all time, but it sure is mine and if anything, maybe you can use these 6 favorite things to liken up to the season a little so you’re not miserable all the time. Happy Holidays and a long Happy Winter to all!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
